Clear communication is important to us, so we have tried to make this clear and easy to understand. Of course, you can always contact us if you have questions. All changes to this policy will be posted on this page.
By using this site, you understand and agree to the following:
Your Personal Information
There are several places on the site where we collect your personal information. Here we explain:
- who is collecting it
- what we collect, and why
- how we store & protect it
- how you can access/delete it
Who is collecting it?
Two Canadian companies, Inspired to Learn and reCongnition, own and operate earlylearningcafe.com, and are responsible for collecting your data. We, as well as several third-parties, are responsible for keeping it safe. Payments are processed through Inspired to Learn, which is a division of Joe Ramsay and Associates Inc.
What we collect, and why
Purchase Information: If you purchase something from our website, we collect your:
- email address
- your primary work setting
The information above is stored by our website, and kept secure at Sibername — the third-party we use to host our website. Learn more about Sibername here.
We do not store records of your billing information. Your name, billing address & credit card information are kept by PayPal which is the service we use to process payments. We require that you pass your billing information, including credit card and bank information to PayPal in order to process your payment.
You must register an account on our site in order to participate in our online learning programs — whether free or paid. When you establish your account, you will receive an email with instructions on how to reset your password. Your password is encrypted and stored securely on Sibername’s servers.
Throughout the site, you can provide your email address to sign up for our newsletter. We store this information in our third-party email marketing platform, MailChimp. We send occasional newsletters with information we think you might find helpful. You can unsubscribe at any time using a link in the newsletter, or email us and ask to be removed. We also use MailChimp to store your name and email address when you register for one of our programs so that we can email important information to you about your account with us. We only remove this information if you cancel your account with us.
In MailChimp, we track:
- which emails you receive, as well as which ones you open
- which links you click within those emails
- your preferred email client
- what type of content you’re most interested in receiving
We never share or sell your email address to anyone.
If you choose to leave a comment on one of our articles, we ask for your name & email address. We use this information to:
create a more personal dialog between ourselves and our audience
identify you as a real human, which helps us cut down on spam comments by robots
potentially contact you in order to better answer a question or help you with a problem
This will always be a personal email sent from a human, and never a marketing message.
Online Course Data
If you’re enrolled in one of our online courses, we collect the following information:
- the courses (cafes and communities of learning) in which you’ve enrolled
- your progress within those courses
We collect this information to make it easy for you to learn at your own pace, and keep track of where you are in the course. We might also send you reminder emails if you haven’t finished a course.
How do we store & protect your information?
For those on our mailing list, MailChimp handles all storage and protection of your data. You can read about MailChimp’s security policy & GDPR compliance directly on their website.
If you’ve provided your name and email address through a comment form on our site, we store that information on our web servers. Your information is protected in two ways:
- the security at the data centres of our third-party web host, Sibername.
- security measures we implement to prevent malicious attacks or login attempts on earlylearningcafe.com
- your purchase information (name, billing address & credit card information) is protected by PayPal.
How to access or delete your information?
You can view most of your information from your account page. You must be logged in to view this page. Click the “Manage Account” tab to update your name, email address, and password.
At any time, you can also request access to your information by emailing us and providing us with your name & email address. We will provide you with all personal data we have collected about you, or delete that information upon request.
We use website analytics at earlylearningcafe.com to track aggregate web traffic statistics. We collect basic information about visits to the site, including, but not limited to: how the visitor found us, which pages were viewed & what actions were taken. We might also collect demographic information (age, gender) or your general interests. We do not collect any personally-identifiable information.
We use this information to learn how our audience is using the site, and where we should be focusing our efforts to make improvements. We may share general site statistics (total visitors, total page-views, etc.) publicly, or with potential advertisers.
- To collect general, non-personal website traffic data
- To customize the experience for first-time vs. returning visitors (by remembering certain actions or preferences)
At earlylearningcafe.com, our #1 goal is, and always will be, to offer quality online learning and create a network of early learning professionals. But we do need to make money in order to continue creating valuable content and online conversations.
From time to time, certain links throughout the site may connect to affiliate venders. If you decide to purchase a product or service via one of these links, we might receive a commission for referring you. Rest assured, this does not increase your cost. In fact, we hope to build partnerships so we can offer you discounts on relevant products and services.
We are always 100% truthful in our reviews & analysis, and will never recommend a product or service that we don’t truly believe in.
